What is Move InBalance?

Move InBalance gives you the awareness and the tools to put right years of bad habits and regain full body mobility and freedom. It helps...

  • To empower you to become aware of how your body moves and doesn't move and how this relates to your daily discomfort/ pain.

  • To gain freedom from your pain.

  • To increase your mobility by waking up your muscles to reduce tension patterns that are preventing you from moving freely.

  • To re-educate your movement and help your body age in a functional and pain free way.

  • To remove soreness, stiffness and restore the natural function of your body in all planes of movement.

  • To improve sports performance when running, playing golf, at the gym- any activity that needs fluid movement.

Why do I feel pain or discomfort every day?

  • Aches and pains are all signs that something in our bodies isn't right.

  • Our posture, the way we walk and how we sit are all effected.

  • We begin to move based on tension patterns that we are holding and not the free movement that we used to have in our lives.

These patterns become so much a part of us that they begin to feel 'normal' and we lose touch with how fully functional movement feels.

  • Our brain and muscles literally forget how to move freely and easily. We may stop dancing, hiking, running or any number of physical activities we used to enjoy as we blame this lack of movement freedom on getting older.

Isn't daily pain just down to getting older?

  • No- chronic tension is caused by a normal signal from our brain to contract a muscle when we have the desire to move. Over the years of a lifetime, this message to contract a muscle can build up and we 'forget' to let go.

  • For example when we've been sitting for hours and stand up to walk around we can feel our muscles overly contracting in that pattern but instead of undoing that tension we may find ourselves adapting our movement to incorporate this lack of freedom, mistakenly thinking that we have to accept this limited movement.

How is this therapy different from seeing a sports massage therapist or osteopath?

  • Many body therapies have a positive effect on people's discomfort. The problem can be when these benefits are only short term. Our issues tend to come back because our chosen therapy is being done 'to' us by someone else; we are not engaging our own brain to retrain our muscles long term.

  • Move InBalance specifically puts you back in control.

  • This means that after a few sessions you will have all the knowledge you need to proceed on your own without regular trips to a therapist.

What about yoga and stretching?

Stretching and yoga are very popular methods in which people try and lengthen overly contracted muscles. Unfortunately though stretching does not always work long term.

  • Static stretching not only pulls on your muscles but also the ligaments and tendons, pulling them past the point that they are able to voluntarily lengthen. This may result in more range of movement in a joint but we don't always benefit from this. Increased movement in a joint can make it less stable.

  • Once stretched, ligaments may never regain their original length and strength.

  • As stretching is passive, a chronically tense muscle may feel like it's lengthening as we're pulling on it but a few hours or days later the muscle will return to it's chronically tight state as we have not actively engaged the brain as well as the muscle and so the old pattern will re-emerge.

What to expect in your first session…

session

A full postural and movement assessment.

This will highlight which areas of your body do not move as they should. Our amazing bodies will always do their best to function as best they can so compensatory patterns will become normal to us but this can lead to restricted movement, pain, or discomfort.

A movement programme for you to take home.

Once we have discovered which areas of your body do not move as well as they could, we will teach you a short movement routine specific to you which will remind your body how it can move so we can begin the process of reinstating your natural movement.

Weekly support and a programme that changes as your mobility improves.

Many people give up the activities they enjoy, whether this is dancing, hiking, singing or simply playing with the grandchildren, as their bodies won't move in the same way any more and we sadly accept this as ageing- InBalance is here to help you realise that you do not have to accept this.

Change your mindset. Change your body. Change your life.
